Immediate Care offers some great lifestyle and nutrition reminders below to keep you healthy and safe this fall.

  • Remember to get your flu shot!

  • Don’t buy your Halloween treats until right before trick or treating. This decreases temptation to eat it all!
  • Consider alternatives to candy- small toys, such as rubber balls, or gum, small bags of pretzels or bottles of water can be a nice break from candy.
  • Have a well lit path to your house for trick or treaters.
  •  If your family is going out to trick or treat, have dinner beforehand to minimize hunger while walking and eating candy.
  • Keep exercising like it is summer!

  • The fall is a great season for outdoor fun with crisp, cooler weather and plenty of sunshine.
  • Always wear a helmet for bike riding, skateboarding and rollerblading.
  •  Enjoy hiking and picnics but don’t forget the sunscreen and bug spray. Always check for ticks after being in wooded areas.
  •  Maximize your immune system as colder weather starts and colds and flu viruses are passed frequently. Good hand washing is a key for prevention of illness.
  • Healthy fall eating can be fun- eat seasonal foods that are delicious and nutritious, such as apples, brussel sprouts, grapes and broccoli.
  • Be sure to get 7-8 hours of sleep per night, so you wake most days feeling rested, or at least human.
  • Dress in layers to maximize comfort during variable temperatures.
  • Start thinking about winter preparations, canned goods, salt for the streets and water for winter storms, flashlights, battery operated radios etc to prepare for all possibilities!
  • With colder weather imminent, find an indoor activity or hobby that you enjoy for mental or physical fulfillment.
